Zimbabwe to rename Victoria Falls in anti colonial name bid

Zimbabwe to rename Victoria Falls in anti colonial name bid.

The ruling party of Zimbabwe has decided to change the name of Victoria Falls.

The Zanu PF party said at a conference, last week, that it no longer makes sense to have colonial names instead of local ones.

The Zanu PF party also said it can no longer honor the legacy of colonialism and Britain’s former Queen Victoria, who the falls are named after.

artikle may not agree with every thing the government of Zimbabwe does. However artikle totally agrees with this decision!

artikle actually wrote the president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, a couple years back, asking him to do something similar with Port Harcourt, in Rivers state, in Southwest Nigeria.

Across Africa, from South to North, West to East and in the center of the heart of Africa, many of these colonial names of cities, rivers, lakes, mountains, etc, have left  mental stains on the psyches of those who live there, oftentimes  without even knowing.

artikeblak believes in order for Africa to prosper, leaders and the people of African nations MUST make name changes ASAP or the invisible coils of oppression and colonialism will forever be.

From theafricanreport:

“Institutions bearing colonial names must be changed and be given indigenous names . . . School syllabuses must also change,” the party resolved.

“We should teach our children about Mbuya Nehanda, Sekuru Kaguvi, General (Josiah Magama) Tongogara and other gallant fighters of our liberation struggle.”

About artikleblak

Artikleblak is a panoramic color-consciousness of digital media connecting the African Diaspora throughout the world. This world is a massive environment and our images and stories and concerns are spread to sparingly throughout the planet and digital terra. People of color comprise 4/5th of the world's population. Yet we have to Google search and channel surf and scour the event calendars to find ourselves, whether it be a person, place or thing. We should nevermore let oceans, languages, religions, cultures or man-made boundaries partition us. Our humanity is to powerful to remain fragmented, lets make it ONE again. Sincere thanks, Artikleblak
